6 month smiles differs from traditional braces in that it takes an average time of 6 months to complete ( anywhere from 4-9 months) 6 month smiles is a cosmetic procedure only and does not correct bite problems such as a cross bite in the back teeth(where the bottom teeth are further out toward the cheek than the upper teet)- although we will correct cross bites in the front teeth (when possible), nor will it correct other bite problems such as how far your upper front teeth extend past the lower front teeth (although they will both end up straight). It is mainly to straighten the teeth for cosmetic reasons or to increase spacing for an implant or bridge. We tend to do 6 month smiles mainly on adults only who refuse to wear traditional braces for 24-30 months or longer or who are not candidates for other options like invisalign or clear correct retainers.
